Jane Jacobs argues that we face a dark age, that is a cultural dead-end. As we move from agrarianism to a technology-based future, we risk losing our culture as we shift our whole way of life. It is pointed out that we still have time to avoid a dark age, if we follow the examples of Ireland and Japan, but we must recognize the danger first.
