Ending was predictable and falls flat. It had interesting sections but was not a book that kept you guessing or kept you wanting to read on.

This was a strange read as even though there is lots going on, it still seems slow & laborious at times. It might have been due to the in depth histories of Roman & Victorian times provided. Although thoroughly researched, it tends to cause the plot to bog down & I found myself flipping pages to get back to the main characters storylines. In the end, you're supposed to be surprised by the identity of "the bad guy" but it was evident early on so the ending is not quite the shocker it was meant to be.
