"The Tudors is an intimate, delicious and daring drama revealing the early years of Henry VIII, a lustful tyrant torn between bedding mistresses and conquering Europe. King Henry executed people with little excuse, and single-handedly tore apart the Roman Catholic Church, the most powerful institution in medieval Europe. Passionate, vibrant, and scandalous, he forever altered the course of history."--Container.

As a huge fanatic for Tudor history, I love this show! While King Henry VIII looked nothing like Jonathon Rhys-Meyers, and in fact in some of the later seasons he really should be getting heavier and looking just generally unhealthy because the injury to his leg, I still think this show did a great job sticking to a lot of historical facts. Though I do hate that it is called The Tudors and only covers King Henry VIII's life. After he dies, three of his children sat the throne. There are three more Tudors to follow, but the show just ends.. so it really should have been called King Henry VIII. Rant over, this show is really good. =)

Do you love English history? No? You will after watching this series.
Get ready to love the most hated English monarch (possibly) of all time.

Very entertaining show on the younger years of King Henry VIII. Once you start you can't stop wanting to dive into the other seasons. Love it!

I have been infatuated with the Tudor court for a long time and this series made it more so. The actors do a fantastic job portraying these complex people, especially Natalie Dormer as Anne Boleyn. It's not completely historically accurate, but it stays true to the story of Henry, his court, and his queens.

I was really looking forward to watching this. Kind of interesting and fun to see a handsome and fit representation of a medieval
English king. This story version is also a reminder that hormones rather than reason will often rule teenage minds - a dangerous combination when combined with ultimate power.
The budget was big enough to provide rich costuming, although the hair styles are distracting to the period story rather than refreshing or complimentary. Beyond that, I just can't imagine that the huge amount of money needed to create a period piece was allocated for a script with such tedious, inane writing.
Most producers know that a production built on a bad script is like a trailer home in a tornado zone. Biggest surprise is that the normally quality-driven HBO was the green light behind this series.

If great writing or completely plausible scenarios is not a top priority or, if you have not enjoyed some of the remarkable and varied era period pieces that have been produced lately, in which the era itself is another character that delights and surprises but does not distract; you might enjoy this series. I only made it through two episodes.

This kind of reminds me of a soap opera at times for one thing because it's not historically accurate, but it's still very enjoyable to watch. I loved Maria Doyle Kennedy as Katherine of Aragon and Natalie Dormer as Anne Boleyn. Jonathan Rhys Meyers was, in my opinion, a bit of a hit or miss during this season. He and Natalie act great together, though. I would watch this again.

Someone commented that there were too many sex scenes in the series, which caused them to stop watching it.

But that was how courtiers were. Many foreign ambassadors commented on the debauchery and lewdness of the English court at that time, as well as the hypocrisy of many courtiers and nobles for being pious and loose with their morals at the same time, in regards to sex and adultery. And Henry, as well as Charles Brandon, were notorious for their animalistic appetites and behavior when it came to sex. So the series was actually fairly true to life in that respect.

I'm a huge fan of the Tudor dynasty. Henry VIII and his reign and court are fascinating. This series is amazing. Although I have to admit that the actor that portrays the Duke of Buckingham would have made a much better Henry, since he was not only redheaded, but was also large in stature like Henry.

If you are looking for a Tudor series that is 100% accurate, this isn't it. But so what!? Don't be so picky! It's an extremely entertaining show! I was hooked after 1 episode and couldn't stop telling friends and family about it! DEFINITELY check it out!

I'm infatuated with trying to decipher the character of Henry. He's such a brat, yet complex. For example, his best friend marries his sister without asking for his permission first. Henry banishes him from royal court then accepts him back in after losing in an arm wrestling match. This plot line is complex yet readily able to follow. The romance scenes are very tastefully done and, contrary to many other comments I've seen, I think the acting is very good.
