This 2008 indie/drama stars Anne Hathaway and is about an outrageous woman who was recently released from rehab so that she could attend her sister’s wedding. As tensions rise, the truth comes out and the family begins to feel very bitter over her reappearance into their lives. The movie is very intense and intimate and probably one of Anne’s best hidden performances. The movie doesn’t have very many downfalls and is definitely well-performed. I would rate this movie 4.5/5 stars and recommend it to those who like serious movies that aren’t over-dramatized and are true to reality. @The_Reviewer of the Hamilton Public Library Teen Review Board

Godawful movie. Trite, predictable, tedious, and forced. Whoever thought this was the "best picture of the year" was probably confined to a maximum security prison where the only other choice was Rocky XII.

Perhaps it is unfair to label this film as "awful" given I only watched the first 5 minutes or so. However one would need to enjoy A LOT of crass and vulgar language to view any longer.

A women struggles with drug addiction after a tragic event that she is responsible for, involving her young brother. She gets out of rehab to attend the wedding of the sister who has never forgiven her. Intense and realistic portrayal of a dysfunctional family that's trying to hold it together. If you like this film, try Ordinary People.

I was hoping that the film would focus more on the characters and their issues and less on the wedding. Why couldn’t Rachel just elope?

Anne Hathaway received Golden Globe and Oscar nominations for her portrayal of a drug and/or alcohol addict who has a weekend out of a rehabilitation center so she can return home for her sister’s wedding. The return shows interesting camera work as the director Jonathan Demme follows Hathaway though a labyrinth of hallways and rooms as she seems kind of estranged from her own home. The wedding festivities include an incredible mix of different cultures and races. If this is an indication of a future America, then the Republican Party has a lot of mending of ways if they ever want to capture the presidency again.

I simply couldn't get through this movie. I usually love stories about dysfunctional relationships but this was too much. Also, the music in the film was headache-inducing.

I thought that the plot was good and well written. The music was very very bad, the movie could have had 60 minutes cut out and it would have been much better.
There were at least 6 different bands at the never ending reception after the never ending rehearsal dinner the night before!
I swear some guy must have throrn all of his singing friends in here.

This has got to be one of the worst movies I have ever seen. Nothing but random people rambling on and on. I had to turn it off 30 minutes into it.

This movie wasn't really a climax sort of movie. That being said, I still enjoyed it.

Rachel's sister, Kim, returns home for Rachel's wedding from a drug rehabilitation centre. The film is shot in a documentary style and the plot details are slowly revealed. Although, all the situations are fairly natural and believable as a doc-movie style, it is difficult to grasp all the details that are revealed on the first viewing. For example, it wasn't clear that the first empty bedroom Kim walked into after talking to Rachel belonged to her deceased brother. The movie's end is rather open as it ends with the return of the rehabilitation staff member, come to pick Kim up at the end of weekend.
