Not usually considered to be Bowie's best, 'Lodger' is a jewel waiting to be rediscovered and reconsidered - as one of Bowie's most daring and underrated ventures.
I being a long time listener of Bowie's stuff glossed over this album when it first came out.But now on second time around (and not because of his passing),I'm relistening to see what I missed. The instrumentation is fabulous, right up there with Station to Station or Heroes ,no probably better! The lyrical side takes some time getting use to,but all in all a great David Bowie record.
I had to hear it a few times but it grows on you and now it's one of my favorites. Best tracks: Fantastic Voyage, D.J., Look Back in Anger, and Boys keep Swinging (love Adrian Belew's solo!) Very underrated album!
1979's "Lodger" is so thoroughly overshadowed by the other albums in his so-called "Berlin Trilogy" ("Heroes" and the monumental "Low"), that it's almost forgotten, which is a shame and this is sleek, exotic, slightly odd pop from Bowie in his prime. It has two of his catchiest songs from this era, "Boys Keep Swining" and "DJ."
