It's difficult for one to speak of this film without gushing superlatives, but "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" has to be considered among the greatest ever American pictures. Not a hair is out of place in this fantastic adaptation of Ken Kesey's popular novel, and it's no accident that the movie won every major Academy Award for 1976. (Only two other films have swept the five major Oscars -- Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Screenplay -- "It Happened One Night" and "The Silence of the Lambs.") If you like dramas that examine human frailties and peculiarities, this movie is a must see. It will involve you with laughter, anger, dismay, angst, and elation. No cinematic work is perfect, but "Cuckoo's Nest" comes pretty darned close.

This movie is based on the novel by the same name, and follows a patient at a psychiatric ward by the name of McMurphy. McMurphy is a gambler with a love for testing other people’s limits and expectations. Whether or not he is genuinely insane is unknown, however, the patients around him are mentally ill for sure. He begins to enter a battle with the “Big Nurse” as he uncovers secrets about the hospital and the lives of the patients. McMurphy symbolizes questioning the status quo while also finding the humanity in everyone. The movie was not entirely to the book, yet it was an interesting interpretation nonetheless. I would rate this movie 4/5 stars and recommend it to fans of the original book. @THe_Reviewer of the Teen Review Board of the Hamilton Public Library

I think this film is still profound and stands the test of time. I’m convinced actors first films are the best, and this is true of Jack Nicholson. Back when he had to act and make a name for himself. And he had so many supporting actors that helped define his character. Bravo!

A movie to be appreciated by those who enjoy a meaningful and high quality story line - humorous at times and dramatic at times with all-around FANTASTIC acting. Every scene has a reason. Every line contributes to the overall meaning of the film. No wasted scenes. Not for movie-goers who are "waiting for something to happen" or who get up to get popcorn. The dialogue IS what happens. Chewing a piece of Juicy Fruit gum will take on greater meaning for you after watching this film. :-) Possibly Nicholson's greatest work as character Randal Patrick McMurphy. Louise Fletcher was amazing as Nurse Ratched. Supporting cast was OUTSTANDING! Detail-oriented movie watchers will enjoy this movie. Action-oriented movie fans or people who are disturbed by the mental health institution setting may not enjoy this film. Would not recommend for young people -- 15 and over in general.

Jack Nicholson is super charismatic as a free-spirited character who refuses to abide by the rules at a mental institution, in a great drama that has its best moments when showing his obstinate attempts to get through to people who have given in to conformism.

Good movie. Had me absolutely bawling my eyes out at the end. Exposes the flaws of our Broken American, puritanical, system of mental institutions. It really made me worry about the people in there. Excellent acting, however, and the acting and the direction itself were superb, and make this film a sheer JOY to watch.
