Another one of those films about energetic young people obsessing about themselves & their relationships. COCKTAIL was one of the better examples; DIL CHAHTA HAI was pretty good; CHENNAI EXPRESS was middling; KUCH KUCH HOTA HAI is typical. YEH JAWAANI is another typical.
Agree with Parineeta, though I'd rate this higher @ 4.761 stars. The two leads are great and the dance numbers (especially his) are fab. Kalki is adorable. The usual crazy plot contortions that one appreciates upon developing a taste for the Bollywood genre are in evidence. Some awesome songs and dances and the growing up story elements are endearing. Very high production values.
The first half was awesome, the second half not so much. I've come to the conclusion that many Indian film-makers (especially newer ones) don't know how bring a script or story home from a proper landing once they've built up the hype and caught your attention. This film had one too many endings, where an American film would be coming to its point, a Hindi one would announce its "intermission" sigh. That said, the chemistry between Deepika Padukone and Ranbir Kapoor is simply sizzling, they bring out the best in each other and here's hoping the former real-life couple can put their difference aside and make lots of awesome films together. Supporting cast members Kalki Koechlin and Aditya Roy Kapoor are also effective (especially Koechlin) with an okay script, exciting backdrops and scenic locales, decent directing and so-so editing.
