It's November of 1962, and Bruce Reynolds is gathering a group of men together with the intent of robbing a Royal Mail train bound for London from Glasgow. The gang holds a practice robbery in the London Heathrow Airport to see if they're ready, and then, on August 8, 1963, they rob the train of over Đ2.6 million. Six of Scotland Yard's finest police officers are called in to investigate the case, determined to not only recover the stolen money, but also to put away the masterminds.

Terrific movie. Very well done. First part is from the point of view of the thieves and the second part the police investigation of the robbery.

Have you ever watched a true story and said, "That is too incredible to be true!" That is how I felt watching "The Great Train Robbery". The robbery should never have been possible with tight security, but no one ever thought someone would try robbing a train. The story is on 2 DVD"s and keeps you on the edge of your seat. Jim Broadbent is wonderful as Scotland Yards Head of the Detectives on the case. You won't be disappointed with "The Great Train Robbery!"

Excellent~~~~~. Broadbent was good choice for Inspector at Scotland Yard. Great idea to have a disc for the robbers and a disc for the coppers.. Disappointed in bonus features, I like true stories.
Glad to see they revived this older Great Train Robbery.

I thoroughly enjoyed this excellent 2 part series about the 1963 mail train robbery. Excellent ensemble cast led by Broadbent and Glenister. A few anachronisms and continuity problems (modern buses, dead trees in August, etc), but really enthralling story. Highly recommended.

A compelling new look at the infamous crime from both points of view. The robbery of a Royal Mail train by a gang is seen first from the point of view of the thieves, led by Bruce Reynolds (Luke Evans). The second half concerns itself with the investigation and hunt for the gang, and is told from the point of view of the investigators, led by a gruff veteran cop named Tom Butler (Jim Broadbent). The story is stylish and a world of contrasts, as we see both spontaneous improvisation and sheer methodical work from both parties. The two protagonists, though at opposite ends of things, make for formidable leaders, and the result is an entertaining film that works on so many levels.
