Inspector Marie Brand is back on the murder beat working with the self-described ladies' man Jurgen Simmel. It's a May/December spring that works: he's tolerant of her eccentricities once he comprehends the scope of her brilliance and she needs a little protection along with the common sense and physicality he brings to investigations. Together they are an entertaining German dream team, catching the murderers, criminals and crooks of Cologne.

It's in German, no English dub ! I constantly need to read the English subtitles, but the actings and story lines are so good, I view all five DVDs of this set!

This is a refreshing change from all the other police/crime shows from all over the world. There's all the elements of mystery, suspense and intrigue without the senseless carnage.
The deeper you go into the series the more humour you will find and appreciate. Also, by mid-series the lead female character changes her hairstyle and becomes a dead ringer for Anne Murray - who knew our Songbird was so fluent in German. All in all, a nice change of pace and a very enjoyable show.

Really enjoyable and different detective series with likeable main characters who have fun interactions. The freshness of a crime series without depicting grizzly, gruesome murders like so many Swedish crime series is appealing. However, it's not realistic that a homicide detective would not carry a weapon nor have self defense skills, and that left her in some bad situations.

A strong female lead with a supporting male part. Marie is the brain behind the couple. Generational and gender differences produce funny moments between the couple. As far as police procedures, they are loosely followed until they become a hindrance.

"Marie Brand" is a long running series of German TV movies still being broadcast on ZDF. The central figure is a middle-aged, ├╝ber-smart but even-tempered Polizistin in Cologne, who is teamed up with a young and generally clueless would-be lothario. She lives, Fargo-like, with her pet-store owner of a husband, so there is plenty of built-in room for gentle humour. The films are supposed to be police procedurals, but I found they just don't possess even basic procedural realism. They are not as bad or formulaic as American cop shows, but they can't match the British offerings in this genre: Marie Brand is no Jane Tennison.

Excellent and quirky police procedural with significant humour in the interactions between the odd couple leads.
