The master of the political thriller became an instant phenomenon after the mammoth success of Z, and he quickly followed it with the perhaps even more riveting. Based on a harrowing true story about an influential Czechoslovak dignitary who, in the early fifties, was abducted, imprisoned, and interrogated by fellow members of his country's Communist ruling party, their intentions vague, their methods terrifying.

Costa Gavras" "The Confession" is a mesmerizing account of an elaborate show trial of more than a dozen Czech communists by their Soviet masters in the early 1950s. Although the use of both flashbacks and flash forwards can be confusing at times, it doesn't diminish the power of the story and the efforts of a powerful cast lead by Yves Montand and Simone Signoret

In addition to the excellent and important 1970 film, "The Confession", a separate disc including a documentary and a long interview with Costa-Gavras is provided.
