"A comic book for kids that includes children and families of all makeups, orientations, and gender identities, Sex Is a Funny Word is an essential resource about bodies, gender, and sexuality for children ages 8 to 10 as well as their parents and caregivers. Much more than the "facts of life" or "the birds and the bees," Sex Is a Funny Word opens up conversations between young people and their caregivers in a way that allows adults to convey their values and beliefs while providing information about boundaries, safety, and joy. The eagerly anticipated follow up to Lambda-nominated What Makes a Baby, from sex educator Cory Silverberg and artist Fiona Smyth, Sex Is a Funny Word reimagines "sex talk" for the twenty-first century."--

Very, very good, if you want something that emphasizes the possibility of a "third way" - that gender is not either/or nor necessarily assigned correctly from birth. If you want a straight-up (pun not quite intentional) book on what the act of sex might be about, this might not be it. But for the age it is aiming at, the emphasis on CHOICE is perfect.

It's a really good sex positive book. It removes the stigma around sex, gender issues and sexuality. It's age appropriate and informative, it creates oppurtunities for open conversations about sex, emotions, gender, sexuality and boundaries.
I highly reccomend this book for people of all ages.

Such an excellent book. I can't recommend it enough. Does not explain reproduction itself, but helps you lay the groundwork for healthy and important ideas and conversations!

Used this book to do a research assignment. I will definitely be buying this for my future children. Their work is perfectly well put for children and is up to date on information and terminology. It does not talk about reproduction, I would say this book is for ages 8-12. The illustrations are bright and visually appealing and they use a group of characters to ask the reader different questions to ask their parents.

My 9 yr old daughter is loving this book! I thought I would read through it first, but I only got a couple chapters in before my daughter saw it. With much curiosity, she asked why I got it and who it was for. The format is appealing and contains age appropriate information. It is meant to open conversation and provoke thought. Takes the taboo out of talking about sex.
