This was such an empowering book. It had a very interesting plot line. It's message was very strong and it definitely is one of my favourite books. It shows that it doesn't matter how skinny or fat you are, you should always respect others and be respected.

This was a fun read. Willowdean is a lovable character and you root for her as she makes her own way. Love the Dolly Parton theme. Looking forward to more books about Dumplin'.

This was a great book, couldn't put it down. In this day it's refreshing to read a book about body positivity or just being comfortable with who you are and not caring what other ppl think of you.

This book was awesome. The book had a great theme/moral/lesson. The only negative thing about it is that it is kinda long and drags on in some parts. Overall this is a feel good book and lots of characters to fall in love with.

One of my favorite YA novels of 2015! Loved the main character and found myself laughing and cringing right along with her. Perfect if you need a reminder that it's okay to just be you.

Funny, well written, and sweet. I really appreciated reading about a fat girl where her size didn't change through the course of the story! The characters felt real, and I wanted to keep reading to see what happened to them, so I'd definitely recommend this to anyone who loves realistic stories. It really is wonderful to have a book I can recommend that talks about body image, self-esteem, first love, friendship, and family so authentically. Also, omg YA needs more fat protagonists like Willowdean. Really, it needs more fat protagonists in general, but Willowdean's voice is so clear and realistic it's fantastic, I want more!

This was a well-written book. I liked Murphy's writing, and the story was believable. However, I felt that the book advanced too slowly at times, and nothing really happened in the first little bit.

The characters were an aspect that I enjoyed. The story also succeeded in expressing Will's love for Dolly Parton, and that was rather enjoyable for me.

Seeing previous reviews, I know that there have been controversies on the book's message. People have said that the novel isn't body-positive enough, but I felt that it was good in expressing body-positivity. Willowdean can be judgmental and annoying at times, but isn't everyone a little subjective? For me, it just made Willowdean more realistic and believable, and she does develop into more of a positive person.

Several things happen in the novel, but at the same time, very little happens. Let me rephrase that. So, there's a lot of drama occurring, but sadly, there isn't really any progression or development.
The main thing that was a problem for me was that the story was slow.

So, in short, I liked the story, but there were parts that could've been improved upon. I'd recommend this to people who like reading medium-length, fun, extra-time books.

I accidentally finished Dumplin' in one sitting - I regret nothing. This is an amazing book and everyone should mandatorily read it. Murphy's characters excellently portray real life insecurities and anxieties; anyone can find something to relate to. The message of self love and body positivity is much needed in today's society. I would highly recommend this book to anyone, even if you don't normally read contemporary.

“I've wasted a lot of time in my life. I've thought too much about what people will say or what they're gonna think. And sometimes it's over silly things like going to the grocery store or going to the post office. But there have been times when I really stopped myself from doing something special. All because I was scared someone might look at me and decide I wasn't good enough. But you don't have to bother with that nonsense. I wasted all that time so you don't have to.”
