The Russian President proves to be a complete pain in the neck in more ways than one in this new novel by Mark Greaney, continuing the ongoing adventures of characters created by the late Tom Clancy. With President Jack Ryan confronting a Russian crisis on more than one front, his son Jack Jr. and colleagues at the secretive campus are working on the same matter in different parts of the world, while the Putin-substitute does everything but chew scenery. The Campus characters continue to be not that terribly interesting when compared to earlier Clancy creations like Ryan Sr., John Clark, and Domingo Chavez, and the novel does suffer from some of the usual techno-jargon one would find in any Clancy novel, but Greaney at least makes the plot work. Better than some of what's come out from Team Clancy in the last few years.
The battle scenes reminded me of Red Storm Rising.
Clancy would be proud. Greaney has picked up the flag where it fell from Clancy's pen. A little different style but the content and characters are what you expect with the Clancy name.
