"Once upon a different time, there was a girl who lived in a kingdom of death. Wolves howled up her arm. A whole pack of them -- made of tattoo ink and pain, memory and loss. It was the only thing about her that ever stayed the same. Her story begins on a train." So begins this alternative history whirlwind of a book featuring a world where Hitler won WWII and his power has bleed throughout the region. This tattooed girl has the power and unique gifts needed to get close enough to Hitler to assassinate him. She just has to beat the best motorcyclists in a race across Africa, Europe, and Japan to win the honor of attending the Victor's Ball in order to engage her target. This book is beyond a page turner and you won't be disappointed with the characters, world building, and extreme action.

This book I read while camping, and the firelight's shifting hues made the book seem like nothing short of a marvel. Beautiful, absolutely gorgeous prose (honestly reading the author's writing made me feel like I was being spoiled), and heartbreaking, utterly painful (yet all too true) plot. This book is the perfect shuttersnap, capturing fragile moments of beauty in an ugly, ugly world.

I'm glad that I read this book after the sequel had been written, because the ending really would have left me hanging. Now, I don't have to wait for 2 years to read the continuation of the story. It was an engaging book, but didn't live up to the glowing reviews for me.

One of the best YA books I've ever read. The female protagonist is a huge bad-ass, i would read any book with her as the main character. The author does a great job at letting the words flow, there was never a slow part. This book deserves more appreciation.

This is one of the coolest books I have ever read. Alternative history with a sci-fi flare and a badass female heroine. What's not to love? It was a unique fantastic read. I found it a little predictable but I went through the whole emotional roller coaster with Yael and her journey. The descriptions of the past and her survival were heartbreaking. Also the relationships and the sense of identity in the story was great. I am really excited for the second one.

In this revised history it is 1956 and Germany won World War II. Hitler is still in power and reigns over Europe. Yael, a jew, was a death camp prisoner experimented on by scientists and now able to shape shift. She uses her abilities to help the resistance. Impersonating another German girl, Yael enters a cross continent motorcycle race where if she wins, she will have an opportunity to assassinate Hitler.

This was a wonderful book. In the beginning it was tough to understand and get into Yael's world and her story. Graudin is an impressive storyteller, but you must stick with it. The character development is well done, and the pacing is quite fast once you get on the road. I really enjoyed this book.

Fast-paced high stakes action. Yael's painful history and commitment to the mission make Wolf by Wolf not just another adventure story though. Great characters and strong emotion mean it'll stay with you long after the last page.

Beautifully written, this is book is dark and angry and hopeful and fast paced without sacrificing on excellent characterization. Yael was fascinating, there's hints of mystery and plenty of suspense, and even a very few wonderful moments of girl friendship. I'd definitely recommend this if you enjoy alternate histories, dynamic and fierce girl characters, or epic racing stories.

I thought this story had a very interesting concept about skin shifting and Hitler.

This book is very intense and well written. Thanks to a Nazi concentration camp experiment, 17 year old Yael is able to shapeshift. Because of this, she gets a mission to kill Hitler. She enters a race she must win in order to dance with Hitler, so she can then kill him.

There are so many plots twists during the race as this book goes present to past, and it is a perfect page turner, as I read very quickly!
