This is about Dean Karanzes who might be one of a kind. He is performing at great level in multiple disciplines for decades now. For most of us, the thought about running 100 mile is mind blowing. This book inspires people to do above and beyond that with extreme determination and hard work. He is an intelligent human being who is disciplined, works extremely hard, values his family, funny and thinks outside the box. He is very successful in many areas: corporate job, endurance sports, writing, endurance ambassador and great at marketing. And all these qualities reflect in this book.

If you've not taken the time to read this, do so. It's an incredible journey from a very positive figure. Dean's not about saying how wonderful and gifted he is, he's about encouraging people to follow their dreams, and realize you can do a great deal more than you believed.

I've now ran 2 ultras, the longest being 50miles and I attribute it to Dean's book showing me I can do more than struggle through a 1/2 marathon. I'll read this again I liked it so much.

Taking into account all the criticisms I've read about Dean Karnazes (which I won't get into since they've already been expounded upon by others at great length) I still loved this book. Years ago, I remember a friend recommending this book to me, well before I even finished my first 10K. I responded "there's no way I could ever do an Ultra." To which she quickly retorted, "Nonsense. Of course you can."

After reading this book, I know that I can. Not only that, I actually want to. Maybe not the 100 or 200 miles that Dean has, but I feel encouraged to constantly improve and not be so quick to dismiss any goal as being unattainable. Any book that can make you feel that way, faults aside, has some serious merit.

Read this years ago. An incredible runner to weekend joggers like me. Still can't imagine how anyone could eat a whole pizza while running. Yes, he is not the fastest by far but tops in endurance. Weird man!
