Cranston's narration brings out each character's voice, allowing the listener to sink in and immerse himself/herself in the character's Vietnam War experience.

I was a bit disappointed with this. At times it seemed he went off track, but I do realize that the title also includes what they carried in their minds - not just on their person. After reading 100+ on this subject I can think of several other reads more 'together' - of course, I wasn't there & they all came away with varied aspects. Unfortunately, most of the ones I read are paperback, never reaching library shelves. Bernard Phall - Street Without Joy - 1950's French in Indochina.

One man's passionate story of his experience in the Vietnam War. This collection of shorts tells a tale in a non-linear fashion, and utilizes war stories that may or may not be true. He also uses the voices of his comrades and relations. I had never heard of this book, but a quick google reveals many study guides - if this is required reading for teens, I applaud.

Listened to the version narrated by Bryan Cranston, who does a spectacular job. Recommended!
