A fantastic, top notch Korean cop movie about corporate/police/media corruption - - a seriously universal theme. From the massive police corruption at the British Met [Scotland Yard] a few years back, to the recent LA Sheriffs' and LAPD corruption, to Seattle - - corruption rules! [Discussing NYC and the circuit court system there, which has always been almost absolutely corrupt, is too futile for words.]
The realistic news blackouts portrayed in this movie reminded me of multiple recent incidents in Seattle. Take, for instance, what happened a few years ago during the construction of a downtown residential building at the corner of 2nd and Stewart which involved 17 SPD vehicles, the SPD bomb squad and the SPD canine detachment - - when a construction company employee went berserk and began trashing the site at 10:00PM one Sunday evening - - yet not a single news report, not even that so-called // alternative news \\ rag, The Stranger [pro-gay but neocon in everything else, as demanded by the politicians], made mention of it!
Then the public allegation against a female cop on suspension - - made by her former girlfriend/lover, claiming that she had stolen drugs from the police evidence room - - was never, ever follow up by any of the local media! ! !
Yup, when it comes to coporate/police/media corruption, Seattle is right up there with the Big Boys!
[Thoroughly agree with the commenter scantella below about listening to the Jung-Min Hwang's voice, great sarcastic tones which accompany his verbal barbs and jokes!]

I found this to be an example of Korean film edging towards Hollywood, which I personally do not want to see happen yet it is inevitable. I hope the days of "Peppermint Candy", "Old Boy", and "The Chaser" ... all very fine films, are not gone. This said "Veteran" was at least entertaining and had some of the old charm.
A quick comment to the other reviewer, I can't conceive of watching Jung-Min Hwang without hearing his very distinctive voice. You don't need to speak Korean. An actors voice is a huge part of their ability and to have this dubbed is a crime. Perhaps you don't read much and can't follow the subs quick enough but after a few tries I'm sure you'll agree with me!

I can't believe I watched the whole movie and enjoyed it. I think the voice over dubbing made it more palatable.
