Robert Plant has been mining different stuff since he went solo, and this one is another progression on his musical journey. This is not Raising Sand, but more like his Band Of Joy stuff from a couple of years back, but with a more world beat/rhythm slant. The playing is all first rate, and this is a pleasant enough release, but if your looking for Led Zeppelin II, move on,Robert did years ago.
Been listening to too many mediocre albums lately. Tryna decide if they're good or not. First song on this album grabbed me: a wonderful mix of tribal (Moroccan?) rhythms and instrumentation in Rock styled songs. Not a perfect album, several songs on the back end are dull_ don't work. But enough of them do to recomend a listen.
I couldn't agree more with datter. My expectations were quite high after borrowing "Raising Sand" (with Allison Kraus) which is an absolute gem. There is obviously a significant amount of talent involved in this release but it's just not the same ... :(
