A lovely telling of a boy forced into an unknown situation for the summer - visiting with relatives he's never met, in a town he's never been before. The situations are believable and the characters are nuanced and realistic - nobody is all bad or all good. Recommended.

Never judge a book by its cover! This one was less than appealing, yet this 2017 Red Maple nominee turned out to be so enjoyable! When Eliot's Mom sends him out to a small town in Nova Scotia for the summer, he thinks his life is over. Gradually as he gets to know his Uncle and makes some friends, he really comes to care for this small town and its inhabitants. Its a really charming, heartwarming story that deserves the nomination.

I originally thought this book was for adults, but really it's suitable for ten year old boys. Generic, themes of bullying, and environmentalism are hinted at, but I can't think of any reason to recommend this book to anyone.

Written in a manner similar to Geronimo Stilton, where the text takes on picture form at times. Great for a reluctant reader as the theme is not "childish."
