Such a cute story!
Pete likes thing clean and tidy. The story starts out with him brushing the beaks of birds and picking up trash. Then things get a big out of hand-Pete pulls up the trees so they will stop dropping messy leaves. The dirt makes mud so he has it all paved over. Luckily for everyone else, Pete realizes he has gone too far and brings everything back. He accepts that life is a little messy.
I laughed out loud when I first saw this book-you don't expect the drastic measure's Pete will go to clean up until you see the illustrations. Plus Pete and all the other forest critters are just adorable! The illustrations are bright, cheery and each character has a wonderful expression-both in their face and in body language.
I would have no problem reading this to a group of children, just so long as everyone would be able to see the pictures.
I love Emily Gravett and her pencils and watercolor drawings. This isn't my favorite of her books, but I enjoyed the rhyming text and the story.
