A poignant bitter-sweet modern story about sisters who find their own way in the world of work, love and the importance of family ties irrespective of death and divorce. Visually rich and uncluttered by judgements - viewers are given space to laugh, cry, mourn and celebrate the ordinary moments of the lives of these sisters, as they discover their own meanings and purposes.

A good film- nostalgic and sentimental but it is affecting.

I LOVED THIS MOVIE FOR THE COMPASSION AND HUMANITY THE THREE SISTERS SHOW TO THE DAUGHTER OF THE WOMAN THEY BELIEVE STOLE THEIR FATHER. THE RELATIONSHIPS ARE DRAWN FROM LIFE AND UNIVERSAL IN ANY CULTURE.

Three sisters living in one town meet their younger sister (who they haven't ever seen?) at their father's funeral in a distant town and it is decided that she can move to their town and live with them. The memories and associated feelings of their parents differ because of their different backgrounds and we get to see these come out as the film progresses. The Western background music may be the director's homage to the great Hollywood 50's black and white emotional (slightly soap opera) films. I am just guessing about the music.

Pleasant yet moving journey. Characters likable yet flawed. Simple dialogue delivered with elegance and understated intensity. This is what we watch Japanese movies for, and this one delivers.

It's like watching a live version of one of Studio Ghibli's animes.
