Distinctly focused on the dancer's art, life and family. With a bent towards exposing the rigors and pressures of ballet dancing and the impacts it has on a young prodigy.

"The larger story, of Polunin’s difficult family background and unresolved demons, was less widely known. It’s this story that Cantor tries to tell in his humane and sympathetic documentary." "Cantor is a director, not a dance expert, and perhaps it’s not surprising that at times he oversimplifies his material in the service of his plot. His use of heavy rock guitar and staccato pacing to colour the scenes of Polunin’s early rebellion make the dancer seem wilder than he really was (drugs and tattoos are far from unknown in the ballet world). There is no attempt to place the dancer’s gifts or the trajectory of his career within the wider context of ballet." Beautiful, honest and raw. One of the best 'art' films I have seen in a long time. It is very focus on Sergei's dancing and story of his life as a dancer. He is truly amazing. I was impressed that his talent came through on a medium that doesn't always show dancing well. Dance is very 3-D, but film at times can be very 2-D. It speaks well of the film team's understanding of their artist and his story. Also, of the director's gifted ability to produce such a intimate film!

This is a must see for anyone who loves ballet. The story of how Polinun became the "bad boy of ballet" is fascinating and understandable. I was so glad to know that some of his outstanding performances have been recorded. I was so sad to realize that I may never see him dance in person.
