Add a CommentPretty good documentary about the band Oasis.
The key thing that you need to know about this documentary is that it was produced by the subjects themselves, the Gallagher Bros., Liam and Noel, the frontman and lead guitarist, respectively, of Oasis. So what you get is auto-hagiography. The viewer is given almost zero sense of the music scene at the time in Manchester and what the band's Shoegaze precursors were. There is also no mention of the great Grunge corporate BBQ underway in the record industry. That's really what goes unsaid in this documentary. Oasis came along at a time where there was a massive corporate infrastructure that needed product -- "The Next Big Thing" -- after Cobain's suicide. And the Gallagher Bros., with their Manchester machismo looking super-cool in a parka -- fit the bill.
