This is the biography of an adventure-seeking Hudson's Bay Company clerk, Alexander C. Anderson, whose explorations of southwestern British Columbia by canoe, horseback and on foot, 15 years before the Fraser River gold rush of 1858, helped to establish the routes to the gold fields and for the Canadian Pacific Railway. Later in life Anderson (1814-1884) was an Indian Reserve Commissioner and Inspector of Fisheries for the new Province of British Columbia.
