Vivaldi is having a good decade: first the Naïve label's epic and inventive recording of his back catalogue, and recently a more radical but equally respectful and enjoyable reinvention from UK post-minimalist Richter.
Richter's a miniaturist, his weakness has always been pushing a thought past the three minute mark, but here the material pulls together the details of his delicate re-workings.
Saw an interview on German television with Max Richter and he spoke at length about his re-working of The Four Seasons. Only approximately 10% of the original remains and what he has written and produced is exquisite. In fact I have been enjoying it far more than I ever have done. Though I blame Nigel Kennedy's version for my apathy and even cynicism toward the music. My interest has been rekindled- and I am pleased it has!!
