Prior to viewing this docu-drama movie read the historical account "Colour Bar" by Susan Williams (Penguin, 2007) which presents the Botswanan cultural background and the colonial political scheming.

Humbling story that highlights the arrogance of the "ruling" class, juxtaposed to the needs of the average person. Also, the continued ignorance and bad decisions that are made when distant rulers think they know better than the people living their lives, or that they can dupe them into thinking what the rulers want for themselves is good for the resident people. Also, the motivation and strength of character that love gives to people individually and collectively is beautifully portrayed. The end part that introduces us to the people the story was based upon is also an enriching view. It is an engaging story, well acted.

A story of the relationship of White Great Britain and its Black African Colonies circa 1940. America should not be too smug about this. Consider that even today one of its two major parties at the federal level is 0.7% African American (One US Senator and one member of the House of Representatives) in a country of 12.6% African Americans.

I enjoyed this historical film, David O has such a lovely voice, an accomplished actor. I am glad to now know of this incredible couple. The 'extra' selection is so worth your time for historical background.

I enjoy learning from film stories that are “inspired”, or “based on” actual events. I knew nothing about Botswana at the beginning of Apartheid or King Seretse Khama and his white wife. Beautiful countryside, well-crafted though predictable.

A good story that should be better known, although a little too melodramatic.

both educational and entertaining. a wonderfully acted love story with lessons in political maneuvers.

Remarkable, well crafted movie about the founding of The Democratic Republic of Botswana. Top notch acting in the portrayal of the underhanded manner in which the UK tried to ban the prince from his home country for life and the eventual triumph of the leaders of Botswana.

I was little disappointed - it was way too long for my taste and perhaps because English is my second language I totally did not understand the deal Khama made with the British government. So I missed the entire point (sigh). I also found this movie to be overly too melodramatic. There were two surprises for this: for too much melodrama this was not an USA movie. And my home country was signed under the production as well. Which is unusual (but great).
