Blending the iconoclastic feminism of The Notorious RBG and the confident irreverence of Go the F**ck to Sleep, a brazen and empowering illustrated collection that celebrates inspirational badass women throughout history, based on the popular Tumblr blog. Well-behaved women seldom make history. Good thing these women are far from well behaved . . . Illustrated in a contemporary animation style, Rejected Princesses turns the ubiquitous "pretty pink princess" stereotype portrayed in movies, and on endless toys, books, and tutus on its head, paying homage instead to an awesome collection of strong, fierce, and yes, sometimes weird, women: warrior queens, soldiers, villains, spies, revolutionaries, and more who refused to behave and meekly accept their place. An entertaining mix of biography, imagery, and humor written in a fresh, young, and riotous voice, this thoroughly researched exploration salutes these awesome women drawn from both historical and fantastical realms, including real life, literature, mythology, and folklore. Each profile features an eye-catching image of both heroic and villainous women in command from across history and around the world, from a princess-cum-pirate in fifth century Denmark, to a rebel preacher in 1630s Boston, to a bloodthirsty Hungarian countess, and a former prostitute who commanded a fleet of more than 70,000 men on China's seas.

This is an excellent way to bring to light some of the amazing women throughout history. With humor and beautiful illustrations, Rejected Princesses is a definite must read.

With over 300 pages covering the lives of numerous women throughout the history of humanity, 'Rejected Princesses' is an absolute treat to read! And the way the stories are 'rated' for the audience is an inclusive stroke of genius!

I can't find the words to express my gratitude to the author for writing this book. These are stories that the world needs to remember, celebrate and pass on to the next generation. These women (and/or legends) have just as many flaws as qualities to praise, which is the beauty of their lives for me. They reflect the deep complexity of the human condition and have given me the types of heroes I never had as a strong-willed girl growing up.

What a great collection of both well known and completely obscure women throughout history. I am glad Jason Porath took it upon himself to compile all of these stories and people in such a fun and unique way.

What a fantastic collection of stories about some of the coolest women to walk the earth! I appreciate the variety of countries and historical periods represented, and the illustrations are great. Definitely recommended for teen girls looking to learn about women; the inclusion of a content guide makes it accessible for younger readers if parents want to limit their readings to the less problematic stories.

An absolutely gorgeously illustrated non-fiction book about booty-kicking historical ladies. Some salty writing keeps you laughing but learning. Highly recommend if you like history!

So many brave and bold women from history with backgrounds that are a little too politically incorrect for a Disney movie. But these heroines get the full treatment here, their stories told in funny and accurate ways and each one is given a Disney-esque illustration. And since each story comes with guide markers for maturity ratings and any not-safe-for-kids subjects, everyone can find a story here that'll fit their girl power needs.

This book started as a few illustrators' inside joke "which princesses are too wild to ever be animated by Disney" and snowballed into a collection or some of the wildest, wittiest most outstanding women in history and mythology.

The art-style is fun and Disney-esque though definitely much darker in places. The writer does take precaution to try to organize each story so those reading to a younger audience can control which ladies should be introduced a little later on while still making sure that they are right there on the pages of history where they should be.

It is so fun to flip through these stories and illustrations to look and see how your favorite female role models are depicted and even more fun to open at random and jump into the life of some rebellious belle you've never heard of before.

Great introduction of historical figures for those who may not typically be nonfiction readers.

Simply an amazing book all around.

A wonderful introduction to some of the history's most talented women, many of whom have been ignored or forgotten. Complete with Disney-inspired illustrations the write-ups are short, sweet, and peppered with just the right amount of sarcasm. Be warned that the content in the last section is for mature audiences.
