"A country and western gathering is being held in a vast prairie in the east of France. Alain (François Damiens) is a central figure in this community. He's dancing with his daughter as his wife and their young son Kid (Finnegan Oldfield) watch from the sidelines. But on this day, Alain's daughter disappears--and the family falls apart. Alain and Kid embark on a relentless search for her, even though it costs them everything and takes them to far-off and unsettling places"--Container.

I'll watch any movie with the actor Francois Damiens in it. Usually he's quite funny, but this is a serious role and a serious film about the search for identity among the French, who lately have been struggling with the influx of refugees coming from a culture vastly different from their own.

My best guess on the "cowboy" theme - a rural town in Eastern France has cowboy festivals complete with country western dancing - is that it possibly represents the perceived invasion of French culture by America after WWII. While they eventually came to terms with that, now they fear being overwhelmed by a culture that seems less benign, more foreign and menacing, and it scares them.
My sense that the director is trying to capture that fear.

One of the worst French films I have ever seen. Basically an anti-muslim propaganda film. Truly embarrassing and waste of time.

Fulfillment of an obsession, but in a very strange way.
