"'I have been writing about death for as long as I have been writing.' [Danticat's] book moves outward from the shock of her mother's [cancer] diagnosis and sifts through Danticat's writing life and personal history, all the while shifting ... from examples that range from Gabriel García Márquez's One Hundred Years of Solitude to Toni Morrison's Sula. The narrative, which continually circles the many incarnations of death from individual to large-scale catastrophes, culminates in a ... prayer in the voice of Danticat's mother"--Amazon.com.

I absolutely LOVE this book. As an English and philosophy student, I find the subject of death is often dramatized. Over-dramatization minimizes the experience of death (just like the same writing practices do to 'love'), thereby distorting it. The book is a collection of comments about death from literature. Saves me all the work of having to read all the books referred to and just get the basics on the subject.
Very well done. I'd definitely recommend it.
