this is the recipe of life
said my mother
as she held me in her arms as i wept
think of those flowers you plant
in the garden each year
they will teach you
that people too
must wilt
in order to bloom

The Sun and Her Flowers is the second book of poetry by Rupi Kaur, a writer and artist based in Toronto. It is a celebration of growth, love and healing. Ms Kaur’s lovely pen and ink drawing accompany many of the poems, adding another dimension to her words.

Rupi Kaur did not disappoint. This second book is every bit as intriguing, inspiring and thought-provoking as her first effort "Milk and Honey". It is a rare book that keeps you thinking about what's really important - long after you've finished reading it. These books should find a permanent place in every library, and referred to frequently. Excellent work.

A beautiful book that taught me many about myself. Thank you, Rupi Kaur, for this wondrous book.

Milk and Honey has to be one of the most widely acclaimed poetry books of this decade, enticing readers of all ages, especially young adults. There was a thrilling anticipation for the second installment, and although there were some beautiful poems, most failed to intrigue me. Although both books discussed some similar matters, Milk and Honey made the topic bearable and emotional enough to be convincing and moving. I believe my main problem was the topic choice this time around, as they failed to be relatable and seemed somewhat over the top (unpopular opinion over here). However I do need to say that the last two chapters were absolutely mesmerizing. Kaur discussed issues in our world and for immigrants, and the injustice that occurs globally. It just comes to show that if Kaur wrote more on these topics, I would preorder all her books and cherish them forever. Once again, her illustrations were beautifully done and accompanied the poems with grace. Rating 3/5

Toronto based writer and artist, Rupi Kaur became an Instagram sensation and the darling of her fellow Millennials with the publication of her previous collection of dreamy, illustrated poems, Milk and Honey. Her newest collection of poetry and illustrations, The Sun and Her Flowers continues to enchant her devoted followers. Exploring themes of love, heartbreak and healing, Kaur has divided her book into five chapters, each reflecting the life cycle of a flower; wilting, falling, rooting, rising and blooming.

The Sun and Her Flowers is a beautiful journey through a range of emotions describing the life Kaur has lived. Inspiring and raw, perfectly complemented by her illustrations, her poems are sure to invoke a visceral response from the reader. Her poetry is free form, and many have criticized her for this, but in my opinion the poetic form and the artistry of the illustrations are perfect vehicles for her passionate expressions of love in all its forms.

Stunningly good! (and I don't often read poetry)

I am not a huge poetry reader. However, I enjoyed this collection of writings. Borrowing this from the library made me feel somewhat compelled to finish it within a timeline. I imagine that it would be more delightful to purchase this book and read small sections over a longer period of time.
