On a chilly February night, during a screening of Psycho in midtown, someone sunk an ice pick into the back of Chanel Rylan's neck, then disappeared quietly into the crowds of drunks and tourists in Times Square. To Chanel's best friend, who had just slipped out of the theater for a moment to take a call, it felt as unreal as the ancient black-and-white movie up on the screen. But Chanel's blood ran red, and her death was anything but fictional. Then, as Eve Dallas puzzles over a homicide that seems carefully planned and yet oddly personal, she receives a tip from an unexpected source: an author of police thrillers who recognizes the crime--from the pages of her own book. Dallas doesn't think it's a coincidence, since a recent strangulation of a sex worker resembles a scene from her writing as well. Cops look for patterns of behavior: similar weapons, similar MOs. But this killer seems to find inspiration in someone else's imagination, and if the theory holds, this may be only the second of a long-running series. The good news is that Eve and her billionaire husband Roarke have an excuse to curl up in front of the fireplace with their cat, Galahad, reading mystery stories for research. The bad news is that time is running out before the next victim plays an unwitting role in a murderer's deranged private drama--and only Eve can put a stop to a creative impulse gone horribly, destructively wrong.

Mind candy. Formula plot, not well organized too wordy, guilty pleasure. I really would not recommend the series at all.

Very poorly written, likely by ghost writers, and not very good ones. Dallas' co-workers are getting more bizarre all the time. Gratuitous profanity abounds. Eminently forgettable.

This series is always enjoyable and this entry is no exception. Dallas has some similarities to the Bones character from the TV series - smart, hard-driving, demanding of those around her while still understanding their dynamic, and often clueless about popular culture.

I hope the series continues with more Eve Dallas books.

The characters in this book have become friends, therefore I enjoy how they work with each other and they have each other's back. Sometimes the story is thin, but I still love to settle in, reading these books. I certainly never tire of them...

I thought this book was rather boring it ended so abruptly

I thought this book was extremely boring, not the usual page turner.
It was mostly about figuring out the killer's mentality.

Another great Eve Dallas book good plot, like the investigative process. Did not have a great deal on Roarke and Eve relationship I think this could be expanded upon. Look forward to the next book.

I keep coming back even though I feel the plot line and characters have run their course. The author is beyond prolific and still seems to find new plot ideas. I do wish the character would grow a lot more. Roarke need to be more involved and this series needs to move out of NYC and push the limits a bit.

I have been reading this series since the beginning and still can say I love it. This book did not disappoint me either. Dallas has to try to stop a murderer who is trying to rewrite a book series by reenacting the murders in the book. The cops at Cop Central all have their jobs to do to try to stop any more murders. Lots of humor and witty remarks by Dallas so I had to laugh a few times. I can't wait for the next book in this series.
