2nd book in Caraval Series

I really enjoyed "Caraval," so I was eager to pick up "Legendary." Unfortunately, it didn't quite measure up to its predecessor. I really love the magical world Stephanie Garber has created, but certain plot points were repeated over and over throughout the book and it became a bit tedious. Still, it was nice to read from Tella's perspective since we don't learn as much about her in the first book. She makes some terrible mistakes, but she is also young and courageous and unafraid to take risks. I look forward to "Finale," the last book in the series, to be released May 2019.

I finished this book in two sittings, and it took me a total of 4 hours total. I loved how it was a while since I read Caraval, but I could easily navigate my way back into the story and find out who's who. The protagonist is one that loves wholly and without fear, which is something I admire in a person. She herself become immersed in a game where the stakes are high and lies are true. With everything appearing to be more than it seems to be, can she find the answers to what she seeks? I wholeheartedly recommend this series. @Siri of the Hamilton Public Library Teen Review Board

'Legendary' is quite different from its predecessor 'Caraval'. It's from Tella's perspective, which means the romance factor is upped and the passionate kisses are also numerous. Tella's narrative is a bit impulsive and silly, and she's less nice than her sister Scarlett. The plot is predictable and overwritten, and there are a few surprising editing errors. Tella does things so stupid that I'm screaming at the book for her to stop. Annnnnndd…

Dante is a jerk.
Jacks is a jerk.
Can't there be a main boy character who isn't a jerk?

However, despite its flaws, this sequel is magical and engaging and interesting (I liked the idea of the Fates trapped in the cards), and I was rooting for Tella at the end. I really loved 'Caraval'. But 'Legendary' carves a path that isn't quite so… Legendary, you could say (see what I did there??)

This was a book that I could barley put down! personally I liked this book better than the first and all my friends thought the same thing. Though you would have to read the first book to get the story about the second book. I could barley put down this book! I think its a book that 13 year olds and older should read.
Great book!

Woah. I've been blindsided.
I wasn't sure about starting this book, I loved Caraval so much and reading from Scarlett's perspective that reading from Tella's view didn't appeal to me. I had a bit of an airhead vibe from her in the first book and expected this book to continue reflecting that, but I did what everyone does with Tella- I underestimated her. She was much stronger, reckless and determined than I thought she was going to be. And the magic of Caraval, though definitely changed and not quite so eye-catching, was still present. I gotta say, I'm loving how these books are stringing me along and making me second guess everything. The ending of this book left me panicking before gasping in relief that a third one will be made. The story is just amazingly brought to life and I'm so excited to see where it leads next.

It was even better than Caraval, because it was more complicated.

I loved this book. I can't wait to read the next one. It is a fun read that you can't put down.

Legendary brings the readers back to the dangerous and dramatic world of Caraval with Tella and Scarlett following the competition to a new city. To find out the truth about their mother Tella must attend Caraval to expose the identity of the mysterious and powerful Caraval Master, Legend. The mixture of the game in a luxurious setting teamed with a dangerous prince and the all-powerful Fates combined to make a book that was compelling and addictive. The sequel is just brilliant and it really shines with a mysterious plot and talented storytelling. There wasn’t a dull moment and I was glued to the book from start to finish because I needed to know how it ended. Although, when it did end I was insanely sad because the book ended in such a good spot and I just wanted to know more! It will definitely be a long wait for me until the third book but I'm sure it will be worth it.

After reading Caraval, I didn't think I was going to love this book because I loved Scarlett and not Tella. But Tella turned out to be more complex and fun than I had guessed. I flew through the book and was intrigued by the turns it took. I previously thought this was a duology, but thankfully, there is a 3rd book coming. I can't wait to read it!
