"In Denmark, Professor Anders Larsen, an urbane man of facts, has lost his wife and his hopes for the future. On an isolated English farm, Tina Hopgood is trapped in a life she doesn't remember choosing. Both believe their love stories are over. Brought together by a shared fascination with the Tollund Man, subject of Seamus Heaney's famous poem, they begin writing letters to one another. And from their vastly different worlds, they find they have more in common than they could have imagined"--Dust jacket flap.

Pensive and wistful, pondering universal and timeless themes of love, happiness, and fulfillment. One of those books where you turn the last page and close the cover with a feeling of contentment.

This is one of the best books I have read in a long time. The language is beautifully written. I became very engaged with both characters. Afterwards I decided they were at different stages of their lives but that does not stop them from being sympathetic and supportive of each other. I hope there are more books like this from this author.

This is a quiet book, but so, so lovely. A middle-aged farmer's wife writes a letter to a museum, only half hoping for a response. When the museum curator answers her letter, it begins a correspondence about life, choices not made, families, and many other things. Beautifully written.
