Sometimes making a friend is a lot easier than keeping one!Sixth grade was SO much easier for Danny. All her friends were in the same room and she knew exactly what to expect out of life. Now that she's in seventh grade, she's in a new middle school, her friends are in different classes and forming new cliques, and she is totally, completely lost. What Danny really needs is a new best friend! So when she inherits a magic sketchbook from her eccentric great-aunt in which anything she sketches in it comes to life, she draws Madison, the most amazing, perfect, and awesome best friend ever. The thing is, even when you create a best friend, there's no guarantee they'll always be your best friend. Especially when they discover they've been created with magic!

A brilliant, clever work. I really enjoyed reading this one, especially the various references to all the nostalgic things I also enjoyed in the 90's! Hope there's a sequel!

This book had a slow plot and had me getting a little lost... Might be enjoyable for 8-11yr olds but still isn't a very good book never the less. About a girl who finds a magical sketchbook that makes whatever you draw come to life. Then she draws the perfect friend and learns that friends don't always stay friends.

Dany has entered middle school and, separated from her best friends by her new schedule, is finding it difficult to fit in with her new classmates. When she discovers that the sketchbook she has inherited from her late great-aunt has the power to bring her drawings to life, she realizes she now has the power to create the perfect friend for herself. However, this newfound power brings along with it even more challenges to face, and soon Dany must rally her friends to face an evil villain of her own making. The angst filled story of the woes of middle school and finding your place is perfectly complimented by the illlustrations and nods to manga and fantasy elements. I hope there's a sequel!

A fun story about changing schools, and making friends - I mean, who wouldn't have wanted to have a magic insta-friend at times? Of course, a magic sketchbook isn't always a good thing to have, and causes mayhem for Dany, but along the way, she does make those needed friends, and learns a lot. A great pre-teen read!
