Drizzt joins Bruenor on his quest for the fabled dwarven kingdom of Gauntlgrym, but before they even get close, another drow and dwarf pair -- Jarlaxle and Athrogate -- stumbles across it first -- and set into motion a catastrophe that could spell disaster for the unsuspecting people of the city of Neverwinter.

While I do miss the Companions of the Hall, I enjoy the opprotunity to explore this new Drizzt. In my opinion it is a testement to Salvatore's writing ability that he has managed to create a work that—though many well-loved characters are gone—still captures the essence of what the Legend of Drizzt embodies. I look forward to the next books, and cannot wait to see what happens next.

You get to see a different side of Drizzt. Although I do miss some of the characters that were his friends, I thought it was a good read.

As much as I loved the characters that were always around Drizzt, I am looking forward to a new chapter in his adventures. Not only does this give us the opportunity to fall in love with new characters it allows us to expore a different side of Drizzt. I for one cannot wait for the next book.

Somewhat disappointing. Why does nearly everybody die in a too-epic scenario? The book seems to be written with an "I'm tired of these characters" attidude.

**Spoiler Alert**

Interesting - Salvatore is ending an era with this book. In this book we see Drizzt move into adulthood. He's a darker more troubled character. The world has weighed on him and he has started to experience doubt. Doubt that he's making a difference, doubt that there is any permanency to his good deeds. I think it's amazing that Salvatore has started to explore a deeper connection between Drizzt and Jarlaxle and the introduction of some new characters to the mix is welcome. A fitting ending to a great tale. I look forward to reading the rest of this new series and seeing this new Drizzt.
