Forty Masterworks

Book - 1988

Such paintings as House by the Railroad, Early Sunday Morning, and Nighthawks seem to embody the loneliness of the individual in the cities and open spaces of America. Hopper strongly influenced contemporary American art, and there are countless photographs and films inspired by his work. The forty paintings in this volume give a representative overview of Hopper's art.

Edward Hopper's artistic-vision was all a matter of shadow & light.

Born in Upper Nyack, NY (1882) - Edward Hopper was a prominent realist painter who, very much, represented and influenced his generation of American artists.

Determined to become a successful artist at a young age - Hopper did not achieve any notable recognition for his work until he was 40 years old.

A quiet and introverted man - Hopper's paintings thoughtfully reflect his own personal vision of modern, American life.

This glossy volume contains 40 of Hopper's most recognizable works. It also includes a brief overview of his life and critique of his art.

(*Note*) - In 1967 - Edward Hopper (84 at the time) died from natural causes.
