The Cars were one of the top American New Wave bands.

Jan 06, 2018

Originating in Boston (in 1976) - The Cars were a quartet of pretty hip dudes who emerged onto the "New Wave" pop-music scene at the end of the 1970s.

With their distinctive synth-pop sound (which was generously punctuated by catchy lyrics and up-tempo rhythms), The Cars scored a string of #1 hits that received plenty of heavy airplay throughout the 1980s.

The clean, no-nonsense sound of The Cars' unique music style can be directly credited to their lead guitarist/vocalist, Ric Ocasek, who single-handedly wrote almost all of the band's songs, himself.

This "Essentials" CD contains 12, finger-snapping tracks in all which were recorded by The Cars in the years from 1981-1987. Four of my very favourite tunes from this compilation are - Drive, Shake It Up, My Best Friend's Girl, and You Might Think.

*Trivia Note* - Ric Ocasek's father was a computer analyst for NASA.
