Originally from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania - Maxfield Parrish (born July 25, 1870) was, without a doubt, one of the world's most popular American painters and illustrators in the first half of the 20th century. Raised in an artistic family - Maxfield's artwork is easily recognizable for its vibrant colours and its idealized neo-classical imagery. Along with other artists-of-the-day - Parrish's impressive paintings clearly helped to shape the Golden Age of illustration as it existed in the realm of the American visual arts. Throughout his lifetime Parrish produced almost 900 pieces of art which included calendars, greeting cards, and magazine covers. His artistic career lasted for more than half a century. On March 30, 1966 - Maxfield Parrish (95 at the time) died from heart failure.
