One of my favorite novels in the Narnia series is “Voyage of the Dawn Treader” (VDT) as it captures the sense of adventure present in “The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe” while steering clear of any items that would have caused Narnia to become a stale series (VDT was the third book published in the heptalogy). The character of Reepicheep is particularly lovable; I think we could all learn a bit from his valor, faith, and loyalty (and perhaps eschew his occasional rash and violent tendencies). VDT is also a great coming of age story, and of course, what better way than to tell such a story than with an extended metaphor of traveling by sea to new and exciting lands?
