Not very good. “Destiny” is a luxury liner which has been in various ports at the time serial murders have been committed there. The main characters are a couple of FBI men, the ship's entertainment staff and a handful of friendly ghosts, including the slain boyfriend of one of the victims. Relentless repetition is the big drag of this story: of the various characters thinking about their bafflement and fears; of the growing romance of an FBI agent and the young woman who plays and sings in the piano bar; of that character's playlists every time she sits at the piano; of the loss of security crew members (in Star Trek I think they are called Redshirts) as the passengers are warned to stay in their cabins; of the two female leads who keep on opening their cabin doors when told of the danger. I like ghosts, don't get me wrong, but the ones in this story seemed to be inserted at the last minute like little plastic action figures. They had a lot of unrealized potential - in a different novel with suitable backstories they would have been my favorite characters. I expect they were there to prepare us for the sappy ending.
