Until the Night is a John Cardinal murder mystery set in the fictional city of Alonquin Bay Ontario. The location and general description match North Bay. Why Blunt didn't just use North Bay is a mystery in itself. That being said the mystery in the novel is a good one with two separate unrelated narratives converging to a thrilling climax. There's also a side story and budding romance. In the main mystery somebody has chained a woman outdoors in winter to die of hypothermia which, as described, would be a long and painful death. Naturally John Cardinal will figure it out but the fun is in getting there.
