Author Yan has literally staked his freedom writing books criticizing the state of affairs in Mainland China - at the very least, some of his works have been censored in his homeland. In this volume, the author satirizes the massive growth of many places in his country, from mere villages to massive cities, in just a matter of years - and the problems that have come with going from an agrarian society to a post-industrial one in the space of just thirty to forty years; a process that took the West more than two centuries to go through.
