A very well done book-to-vdo adaptation. If you read the book first, you'll understand why this is such an accomplishment. True, the vdo abridgement required some plot modifications and removal of various ambiguities present in the original book, but on the whole, in vdo form it retains the two important qualities of the original: fascinating and very entertaining. For the viewer who wants to do a little preparation before viewing, there's 3 basic themes that make the bulk of the story, all derivations from these well known stories: The Faustian Bargain, Orpheus' attempted rescue of Eurydice from Hades, and Northern European Faerie Mythology, as exemplified in Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream". If you can find it, this is a good Blue-Ray choice for those with big screen TV's. Very much recommended.
